5 Stars - Wild Reverence by Rebecca Ross

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t immediately hooked when I started Wild Reverence but I am so glad I stuck with it because by the end I was completely swept away. Rebecca Ross has such a gift for world building and the way she layers imagery into every scene makes the world feel alive and immersive. The characters are what really sealed it for me. Matilda’s growth as the FMC is both believable and deeply moving, while Vincent as the MMC adds a steady, compelling balance that makes their story feel not only like a romance but a saga of love and something greater than love itself. Ross has a way of weaving magic through her words that feels effortless and it elevates the entire story into something unforgettable. By the time I turned the last page I wasn’t just satisfied, I was in awe.

Let's Talk Towles: Why You Need This Gentleman (and His Books) in Your Life

Okay, bookworms, gather 'round. We're talking about Amor Towles, a literary magician whose words spin tales so captivating, you'll gladly hand over your weekend (and maybe your sanity) in exchange for a trip to his world.

Towles isn't your average "beach read" author. His novels are like perfectly tailored suits for your intellect - impeccably crafted, rich in detail, and guaranteed to make you feel like the most cultured person at the bookstore (even if you're still rocking sweatpants).

But where to start? Don't worry, I've got your back (like a trusty valet for your literary journey). Here's a crash course on Towles's top hits:

  • A Gentleman in Moscow: Picture this: Count Rostov, a charming aristocrat, gets stuck under house arrest in a fancy Moscow hotel. Instead of withering away, he becomes the hotel's heart and soul, proving that even within four walls, life can be an adventure. Think Downton Abbey meets Ferris Bueller, but with way more champagne and caviar.

  • Rules of Civility: New York in the 1930s, a time of Gatsby-esque glitz and hidden shadows. Enter Katey Kontent, a sassy social climber with a sharp wit and a thirst for adventure. She navigates the city's upper crust, learning the art of cocktails, conversation, and maybe even a little love along the way. Think Gossip Girl, but with way more class (and actual consequences).

  • The Lincoln Highway: Buckle up for a 1950s road trip across America, with four unlikely companions: Emmett, a teen fresh out of juvie, Duchess, a headstrong socialite, Woolly, a musclebound mechanic, and Mercer, a jazz-loving orphan. Their journey is full of twists, turns, and plenty of teenage angst, reminding us that sometimes, the greatest adventures are found not in the destination, but in the people we meet along the way. Think Thelma and Louise meets Stand by Me, but with way more Studebakers and roadside diners.

So, there you have it, folks. A taste of the Towlesian universe, where wit meets wisdom, history meets heart, and every sentence is a meticulously crafted gem. Trust me, once you step into his world, you'll never want to leave. Just be prepared to face the real world with a slightly more refined accent and a sudden craving for blinis.

Now, go forth and read! And if you need someone to discuss Count Rostov's sartorial choices or Katey Kontent's romantic escapades, well, you know where to find me.

P.S. Don't forget to check out Towles's latest collection of short stories, Table for Two, for a delightful smorgasbord of his literary genius. Coming April 2024.
